GOG Galaxy is the official client for GOG (formerly Good Old Games) with which you can download and play all the games you've purchased on this service. You can obviously buy other games, too. The main function of GOG Galaxy is making life easier for its users. At that point it becomes a 'Steam versus GoG' argument. Now, given that the Galaxy launcher can't and won't update pirated versions(as it does check if you have the game), the best OP will do is break his pirated game if he doesn't have it on GoG(as pirated versions come with modified files, even GoG versions).
